Solder irons are hand tools used for installation, repairs, and limited production work in electronics assembly. These irons function by passing an electric current through a resistive heating element which melts the solder via its metal tip. However, simple solder irons have many limitations that can lead to defective soldering. This solution provides a solder iron whose supplied power can be controlled, giving hobbyists a cheap, power-controlled solder iron to pursue their interests without price being a concern.

System: The project uses a TRIAC and an opto-TRIAC for controlling the power, forming an AC solid state relay circuit. It is triggered by a separate UJT-based trigger circuit, making it highly accurate.
